Gairm: @CelticStudents to hold Third annual Conference in Cornwall in March 2015

Earlier in the year we helped with the publicising of the Association of Celtic Students of Ireland and Britain’s conference which took place in Wales where a paper on Scottish Gaelic and Twitter was one of many other papers read during the weekend in Aberystwyth. We have since received communication about their next international conference due to be held in Cornwall in March and we’re happy to publish the information again. Hopefully there will be some more papers presented in Scottish Gaelic.

Dear members and friends,
I am pleased to announce that registration for the third annual Celtic students’ conference, to be held in Falmouth, Cornwall, 20th-22nd March 2015, is now open. The online form can be found at www.acsib.org. The call for papers and further information can be found below, and on the website. If you are interested in attending, please also click attending on the Facebook event http://goo.gl/c2Ycil, and we’d be grateful if you could spread the word about the conference to anyone who might be interested. The registration form is active and online payment will be available shortly for the registration fee (which can however be paid upon attendance). Anyone interested can attend, even if you’re not a student.
We hope to build on the success of the conferences in Edinburgh and Aberystwyth and make the 2015 event bigger and better than ever. It will be a great opportunity to meet fellow students from all over the Celtic world and there will be plenty of social and cultural activities alongside the academic element.
For more information, feel free to reply to this email. You can write to us in any of the seven official languages of the Association (Welsh, Irish, Scottish Gaelic, Breton, Manx, Cornish, English), though I confess my Breton and Cornish are rudimentary so there may be a delay in these languages. French and German also possible.
Cofion gorau / Le dea-ghui / Le gach deagh dhurachd / Best wishes,
Christopher Lewin

The conference will be held at the University of Exeter’s Penryn Campus in Falmouth, Cornwall, on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd March 2015, with a welcome event on Friday 20th. The aim of the Association is to encourage social and academic links between students of Celtic languages, literatures and cultures from across these islands and beyond, and to give them a chance to gain the experience of presenting their work in a supportive environment among their peers. In March 2015 we hope to build on the success of our previous two conferences, Edinburgh (2013) and Aberystwyth (2014), as we build up the organization for the future. Registration to attend, and to submit an abstract for a paper if you wish, is now open.

Call for papers.

We invite proposals for 15-minute papers on any subject relating to the Celtic languages and their attendant literatures and cultures from students of Celtic or related disciplines, both postgraduate and undergraduate. Papers may be presented in any of the Celtic languages or English. Simultaneous translation will be available for Welsh, Irish and Scottish Gaelic, and anyone who would like to present in Breton, Manx or Cornish is asked to provide a written English translation of their paper which will be given to attendees to enable them to follow it.

Abstracts should be no more than 200 words in length, and should be submitted by 01.02.2015 (you can still register for attendance only after this date). The registration fee is £10, to cover costs of refreshments etc., as well as plenty of goodies and free activities!
